Urban
Leadership Initiative (ULI):
About our Mission Trips
Each year as part of the Urban Leadership Initiative International (ULII), CUBM connects urban adults with places outside the city and often times outside the United States. Mission classes and trips serve to both expand our students’ worldview and furnish them with firsthand experience in cross-cultural ministry.
Over the years our students have had the opportunity to travel and minister in Kenya, Uganda, England, and Jamaica. They all agree that they come back changed.
We asked the March 2011 team to select their favorite pictures and summarize what the trip meant to them so you could get a glimpse at the heart of our mission initiative.

2012 Mission Trip
Kenya
March 15 - 31
CUBM has taken seven missions trips abroad over the years and they have all been tremendous growth and learning opportunities for our students. Dr. John Stanko is pleased to announce that they will be sponsoring another trip to Kenya in 2012.
This will be another joint trip sponsored by CUBM and his church, Allegheny Center Alliance Church. The cost of the trip will be approximately $4,250 and the team will be ministering in the capital city of Nairobi and in the west Kenyan city of Bomet. More specifically, we will be ministering to orphans and widows and taking over much-needed educational and recreational supplies. This trip will also be available as a three-credit course, which will involve some reading, papers and a trip journal (along with the tuition payment in addition to the cost of the trip).
Kenya Library Project
November 7 - December 16
There are few libraries in Kenya and our 2012 Kenya mission team wants to collect enough books to establish two libraries for the residents. These two libraries will greatly assist the churches there as they help their people and reach out to them with the gospel message. In addition to books and other educational supplies we will also need money to help with shipping costs. Monetary gifts should be made in the form of a check payable to CUBM.
Please review the list of Books and Educational Resources List that we can/cannot receive.
Collection Bins are located in the hallway outside Mrs. Byrd’s office at the Center for Urban Ministry. Pickup can be arranged for larger donations.

As a result of this trip the Kenya 2010 mission team launched Operation Petticoat. This project provides school age children and teen age girls undergarments and feminine hygiene products that they must have to attend school.

Nine students, graduates, and friends of CUBM accompanied Dr. John Stanko to Kenya in 2009. The team ministered to grassroots organizations that address the needs of HIV/AIDS widows, orphans and patients being cared for by the Sarah Network, a partner with the GOAL Project in Pittsburgh, PA.
