Urban Leadership Initiative (ULI):
About our Mission Trips
Each year as part of the Urban Leadership Initiative International (ULII), CUBM connects urban adults with places outside the city and often times outside the United States. Mission classes and trips serve to both expand our students’ worldview and furnish them with firsthand experience in cross-cultural ministry.
Over the years our students have had the opportunity to travel and minister in Kenya, Uganda, England, and Jamaica. They all agree that they come back changed.
We asked the March 2011 team to select their favorite pictures and summarize what the trip meant to them so you could get a glimpse at the heart of our mission initiative.

Kenya, February 27 – March 14
CUBM sponsored its sixth missions trip to Kenya from February 27 to March 14, 2014. CUBM graduate Cheryl Bradbury and current student Renee Drummond-Brown made the trip led by our own Dr. Stanko.
You can access all past trips here and this trip promises to be as exciting as any as the students visit the libraries and ministries supported by CUBM and its friends.
There are few libraries in Kenya and our 2012 Kenya mission team wants to collect enough books to establish two libraries for the residents. These two libraries will greatly assist the churches there as they help their people and reach out to them with the gospel message. In addition to books and other educational supplies we will also need money to help with shipping costs. Monetary gifts should be made in the form of a check payable to CUBM.
Please review the list of Books and Educational Resources List that we can/cannot receive.
Collection Bins are located in the hallway outside Mrs. Byrd’s office at the Center for Urban Ministry. Pickup can be arranged for larger donations.
2011 Mission Trip
2011 Mission Team
The ACAC (Allegheny Center Alliance Church) and CUBM teamed up for a second year. They collected shoes, books, art and athletic supplies, blankets, and educational games to take over to Kenya. They distributed 40 bags, approximately one TON of supplies to orphans and widows in Kenya.
You can read their daily entries and see all the photos and videos on their travel blog.
2010 Mission Trip
Allegheny Center Alliance Church and Geneva College at the Center for Urban Biblical Ministry traveled to Kenya to minister to orphans, deliver educational supplies and conduct leadership training. The team visited Nairobi, the Masai Mara and Tenwek.

As a result of this trip the Kenya 2010 mission team launched Operation Petticoat. This project provides school age children and teen age girls undergarments and feminine hygiene products that they must have to attend school.
2009 Mission Trip
Nine students, graduates, and friends of CUBM accompanied Dr. John Stanko to Kenya in 2009. The team ministered to grassroots organizations that address the needs of HIV/AIDS widows, orphans and patients being cared for by the Sarah Network, a partner with the GOAL Project in Pittsburgh, PA.
