On Monday, May 11, CUBM conducted its annual graduation ceremony at Eastminster Church in East Liberty. This year, CUBM was blessed to see eight students finish their degrees and graduate! The evening was marked by tradition and joy, and began with the entrance procession, made up of Geneva officials, CUBM faculty, staff, board members and special guests.
Executive director Karla Byrd and staff planned a beautiful ceremony and after party attended by happy family and friends of the graduates. Reverend Hubert Hutcherson, pastor of the Shiloh Community Missionary Baptist Church in Homewood addressed the graduates and Dr. Ken Smith, president of Geneva College, bestowed the degrees on the graduates, assisted by CUBM Board President Pastor Bill Glaze and Dr. Ken Carson, vice president for academic affairs at Geneva College. The CUBM choir under the direction of John Burwell ministered in song and class president Ebony Fuller-Nelson gave the graduating class remarks.
In addition, CUBM awarded three high school graduates with the Pittsburgh Student Advancement Awards for 2009. Those students are Catherine Byrd, Sarah Gilmer, and Lauren Renee Thomas. All in all, the 2009
graduation celebration was a special occasion that will be remembered by all for many years to come.
