Steps for A Brighter Pittsburgh
STEP 1
CUBM works closely with the principals and counselors of local high schools to identify students who have the potential to do college work, and who could benefit from additional preparation to ensure post-secondary success.
STEP 2
During the spring and summer of 2010, CUBM will work with ABP students to prepare them for college work and life. These preparatory sessions will include study habits, career counseling and other skills necessary to succeed in higher education. In August, 2010 these students will enroll in CUBM’s fall semester taking 15 credits. The program director will monitor ABP students throughout the process.
STEP 3
ABP students will be in classes with the other CUBM students, under the careful supervision of CUBM and ABP counselors and director. The non-traditional students currently enrolled in CUBM classes will also mentor and "counsel" the younger students, while the younger students will help the older students adapt to the college classroom setting. The ABP students will then enroll for 15 credits in the spring of 2011 session and six credits in the summer of 2011. ABP students will then transfer to Geneva (or other higher education institution) the fall of 2011 as a sophomore with 36 credits, equipped and ready to succeed in college life away from CUBM and home.
STEP 4
ABP students will obtain summer employment in addition to the six credit summer classes of 2011. They will visit Geneva College campus throughout the 2010-2011 school year helping acclimate them to campus life and preparing them to transfer to Geneva College or another educational institution for the 2011-2012 school year. The ABP director will monitor these trips.
